Note: The 5 Magazine DJ Series was a monthly CD series released in a limited edition from March 2007 to November 2008. We featured mixes from legends such as Frankie Knuckles, Gene Hunt and Terry Hunter to the next generation of hard-working Chicago House Music heroes, distributed for free on CD in the Chicago area.

cdRon Carroll is more than “just” a DJ. He’s a producer that vocalists love to work with. He’s also a vocalist in his own right – one that has appeared belting out the main vox on hit songs by Hardsoul and his own productions. His patented preacher’s sermonizing on tracks such as the remix of Bob Sinclar’s “Love Generation” maxi-single and the touch of gospel in his recordings has earned him the nickname “The Minister of Sound”.

Ron Carroll is also a label owner (Body Music Chicago, which has more than 20 12″ singles to date), an impresario for young talent, and – rare among artists that reach this level – still a man about town. He started off back in the 1980s as the owner of a southside club called “The Bangin’ Enterprize” and continues to throw some of the hottest parties, from weekly residencies to one-off extravaganzas at which he’s shared the limelight with artists such as Barbara Tucker, Terry Hunter, Mike Dunn, DJ Pierre, Farley Jackmaster Funk and loads more. And that’s just in the last two months.

So it’s fair to say that Ron Carroll isn’t “just” a DJ, but it’s DJ Ron Carroll that we’re focusing on this month, as Ron has mixed the March 2008 edition of the 5 Magazine DJ Series, available free in limited quantities of CDs around Chicago, at KStarke Records at 1109 N. Western Ave, and, as always, for free on our website.
