The Topline

Friday October 18: Let’s start with techno on the big screen. God Said Give ‘Em Drum Machines, which looks to be the most definitive history of the origins of Detroit Techno yet, and potentially open a new era in electronic music documentaries, will make its Chicago debut in a rough cut screening as part of DePaul University’s Visiting Artists Series at 247 S. State Street, Daley Building in Chicago starting at 5:30pm. [ RSVP ]

Saturday October 19: Ghostly International is taking over damn near the whole town this week, culminating in two separate but related performances on Saturday at Metro and then downstairs at Smartbar. [ tix ]

Sunday October 20: The residents are in. Derrick Carter returns to Queen! at Smartbar with Michael Serafini and Garrett David, whose Queen Tracks Part II recently sparked this piece on the label that puts out so much Chicago goodness, Stripped & Chewed. [ info ]

The Backline

There are two consecutive but unrelated events on Saturday at Cerise Rooftop at the Virgin Hotel: a day party with Ron Trent, Mark Grant and David Sabat from 2pm to 7pm, followed by Shaun J Wright, Hijo Pródigo, VITIGRRL and Will Galvan for Bizarre Love after dark.
