The 2022 Chicago House Music Festival and Conference is not in one place, or on one day. Instead, it’s a series of events with a live show in Millennium Park on Friday September 16 as the linchpin tying it together.
The “conference” part starts with what organizers call a “House Music Symposium” on Thursday, September 15 starting at 5pm at the Reva and David Logan Center for the Arts at the University of Chicago (915 E. 60th Street.) Programmed and hosted in collaboration with Vintage House Show, the symposium “will explore the history, culture and business of House music” with panelists including Terry Hunter, Maurice Joshua, Michaelangelo Matos and Tiffany Walden.
The main performance of the festival is on Friday, September 16 at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion at Millennium Park (201 E. Randolph) featuring performances by Ten City, Josh Milan, a celebration of Robert Williams and The Chosen Few DJs. The show runs from 5:30pm to 9pm.
On Saturday, September 17 at 3pm, the Rebuild Foundation at Kenwood Gardens (6929 S. Kenwood Ave) hosts Soul Liberation: A Frankie Knuckles House Music Celebration featuring sets by Duane Powell, Greg Gray and Celeste Alexander and the “premiere of My Frankie: Reflections on the Music and Life of Frankie Knuckles, a short documentary and accompanying panel discussion, and “community resources that honor Frankie’s pioneering curation of liberatory space through sound.”
At 6pm through midnight, the House Club Tour will visit venues across the city.
On Sunday, September 18 from 3pm to 6pm, the focus shifts back to the Pritzker Pavilion at Millennium Park for Open The Circle’s Footwork Dance Down, “a non-profit focusing on community organizing and racial justice through the art.”
