Research & Development at Smartbar – July 11 2019

Smartbar presents Research & Development with Steve Hauschildt (Ghostly International / Editions Mego / Kranky), Cid Ikarus (Eutopia), ‘Magin’ [live] (Banal Anml x Mia Arevalo) and Club Politix (Research & Development).

Dedicated to some of dance music’s stranger and innovative realms, Research & Development takes pride in pushing the boundaries of contemporary electronic music while celebrating the origins from which it mutated.

‘Magin’s debut single, “Hopeless Romantics Wait”, explores a dripping wet dream pop atmosphere and leaves you wanting more. Luckily, the dream continues with a live performance from this new duo bounding on to the Chicago scene.

A veteran of the experimental music community, Steve Hauschildt’s compositions have utilized synthesizers, computers, and digital processing to transform established norms and genres. Hauschildt may be widely known for his work as a producer and performer with influential solo releases and collaborative works with Emeralds, but tonight we’ll have the opportunity to see what he cooks up as a DJ.

Zig zagging closer and closer to the sun, Cid Ikarus is on not on a straight path. An electrifying producer, DJ, and visual artist, Cid Ikarus is casting a very unique interpretation of juke and footwork in order to “set that shit on a crash course for the sun.” Be prepared to crash, burn, and be rejuvenated during his set.
