Yuu Udagawa: The 5 Mag Cover Mix Issue 221

A classy blend of electronic, jazz and leftfield grooves from the Japanese DJ and producer and one of our favorite new artists.

Yuu Udagawa is a Japanese DJ and producer and one of the most dynamic new artists to appear in the scene over the last few years. We're honored to have her take over this issue's 5 Mag cover mix.

Based in Tokyo, Yuu Udagawa studied art and philosophy in high school and has since performed at clubs, festivals and fashion shows. In 2010, she composed "Blossom," the main menu BGM for Sony PlayStation 3 (Torne and Vita), captivating gamers. Her music — a blend of electronic, jazz, and leftfield grooves — broke through in the underground in 2021, with releases on Compost, Cosmocities and more.

This is actually our second encounter with Yuu Udagawa; 5 Mag previously showcased her Forever EP. That release marked the debut of Cyphon Recordings, the youngest sibling of Freerange Records presided over by Jimpster and Tom Roberts. Her music has also found a home with the equally exacting Compost Records with three releases, most recently the Golden Glow EP, praised for its "classy, sophisticated and timeless jazz-electronica-house" sound.
