“Every story has its final chapter,” the email says, “and after much contemplation and reflection, the time has come for us to bid farewell.”
With that, Eric Williams and The Silver Room have announced that this July’s Silver Room Sound System Block Party will be the last.
The Block Party began in Wicker Park, where The Silver Room was then located in 2003. After moving with the store to Hyde Park in 2016, the Block Party has become a multi-day ticketed lakefront festival — and a beacon of “joy, unity and cultural enrichment for both local residents and visitors around the world.”
The 18th and final Block Party — dubbed “Love To The World” — will take place on Saturday July 29 and Sunday July 30 2023 at Oakwood Beach (39th Street) from noon to 10pm. Announced performers include Ron Trent, Rich Medina, Leroy Burgess (Live Band), Lady D, Tony Humphries and more. As previously announced, all the DJs from Chicago’s 3 Degrees will also be getting together for the festival. Tickets are available here.
While announcing the “final chapter” of the Block Party, Williams and the Silver Room have not ruled out a sequel. “While this marks the end of this iteration of the block party in its current form, we remain open to the future and the potential for new beginnings. We encourage everyone to cherish the memories we have created together and embrace the possibilities that lie ahead.”
