Back in the early 1990s, a young fella named Jump “Chico” Slamm banged out one of the early releases on the soon-to-be juggernaut known as Cajual Records. The Slamm Project is best known for the B-side track “Feel Free”, and you know it even if you think you don’t.
“Feel Free” became almost an auditory blueprint for the cutting edge material to come from sister label Relief (not to mention being the takeaway cut on the best compilation of the decade, The New Chicago House Sound). Not much else was heard from Slamm (oh, except for this and several others like it under the alias “Sagat”; “Fuk Dat” in its brief burst of playlist saturation in the mid-’90s was inescapable).
Slamm has been back on the scene for a minute or so, however, with The Pyrotechnics EP from Cyberjamz and now Galactic Alignment on vinyl from Rush Hour.
This has been circulating for a few years in one form or another (I’ve even seen queries from record skunkers show up in garbled search results). I dunno what say you, but I can almost put together the classic aspects of “Feel Free” here, from the insanely soulful vocal clip picked apart by the sharp edged percussion. “Feel Free” was a hard song to live down but this two track set from the vaults steps up.
