Andy Compton is pressing up the first Peng vinyl in six years with California Dreaming, a dazzling new album under the Andy Compton presents Blue Dream moniker.

The LP is out this month and features 9 tracks stretching the definition of “soul” to the breaking point. An extended funk seancé on “Betsy” conjures up the ghosts of Chic Org on “Disco Baby” and it all melts down into a deliciously slow jam on “I Love It.”

If live instrumentation and warm, sunny vibes is your thing, California Dreaming is hard to beat. Though out later this month from Juno, Andy’s got some boxes:
