Rolling drums, grooving baselines and dubby reverb for days. DJs will get a lot of mileage out of the five tracks on Antic Soul’s Apnea EP, out in January on Entourage Concept. The four original tracks share a common palette of sounds — almost four branches from the same trunk, dominated by glowering percussion (Volca beats?) and an aesthetic that is likely workable in both spaces large and spaces intimate. The fifth track is a remix by Jon Hester which opens “Apnea” up to breathe and adds a degree of cinematic atmosphere to the piece. Highly recommended stuff from two cats in Berlin.
