At 1:05 you should be prepared to get happy. “Hustlin’ All Day” by Portuguese producer Bernardo Mota gets positively joyful at that moment as this lovely little track erupts with bigger-than-Def Mix piano chords going up like fireworks. There are only so many records like this that go around, and only a few of those thread the needle the way Mota does, combining uplifting vibes with a credibly raw approach to production that could have fit in any set from the Summer of ’92. This is on Dog With A Bone, a label I never heard of before but which is a sub imprint of the well-regarded and splendidly dashing Miura Records.
