Another fine tribute to Michel Baumann aka Soulphiction aka Jackmate, this time from Local Talk. Baumann died at a tragically young age nearly two years ago after he was diagnosed with cancer. A year before his death he released 24/7 Love Affair on Local Talk and a series of records on a side label, 18437, set up with Local Talk’s Tooli.
Live @ Bix is lead by a live version of “Bizzness” recorded by Soulphiction and Netzer in 2018 — bass that jumps out of the mix like a boogeyman (but is really played by Markus Bodenseh) and chunky guitar courtesy of Markus Birkle makes this maybe an even more essential version than the (extremely well regarded) original. The B side features a bright deep & disco cut called “Dileila Emergency Dub” and again the slippery bass is the star here, other than the one with the name on the sticker.
