Groovin Recordings has performed enough resurrections by now to be qualified as a necromancer, and never have they done more beautiful work than on NY’s Finest’s 1993 classic “Do You Feel Me?” I spend a lot of time talking about classic house and dance artists who never got their shine. With Victor Simonelli, he can never get enough. His discography is unrivaled in this scene, and these Bassline Records releases are gems that still emit a pale glow after nearly three decades in the vault.
“Do You Feel Me?” may have been the first to sample the acappella from “Sanctuary Of Love” and certainly was not the last. “Do You Feel Me?” had a popular (and to be honest pretty weak) “re-interpretation” by Gerd and a much superior modern rework by Richard Earnshaw on Toolroom in 2015, though neither of their releases included the full complement of original mixes here on wax.
This sweaty Garage sound is due for a scene and sonic revival – there’s nobody who likes house music and doesn’t like this, and even the hoodie bros bob their shoulders when they hear those big chords and bigger vocals.
