Cajmere and Gene Farris: The White Label EP

A visit to the Chicago nightlife in the early days of House gives us some very enjoyable moments. The production team of Cajmere and Gene Farris keeps those memories alive and well with another collection of goodies, the White Label EP on Cajual Records.

This current installment of reworked classics adds two more pieces to the collective work. “Coconuts” and “The Biz” are references to two Chi town party spots frequented by partygoers. (“The Biz” refers to The Bismarck Hotel in downtown Chicago that dee jay extraordinaire Lil Louis made famous.)

“Coconuts” is a retouched rendition of the ’80s soul tune by R&B group Change titled “Paradise”. This track is finely chopped in all of the right places. Each chop is a small element of the hit, putting emphasis on the main rhythmic concept. The You Tube video compliments the track with an in-step motion of dancers at the annual Chosen Few Picnic.
