This is the former Detroit Swindle’s first EP as Dam Swindle and goddamn indeed.
The Spice Run EP is made up of mile upon mile of soul, cut by beat tailors into a gorgeous tapestry. Draped in thread of gold and cashmere at the center is the stunning voice of Nikki O, best known for records with Javonntte (The Color of Midnight) and Moodymann (Come To Me from 2014’s self-titled album). She’s the main attraction on the lead track “Breathe,” which trots along on a disco gallop and stuffs the room with the sound of a full band. Aus Music has their hands on a total classic here.
