I believe I’ve finally figured out Cajmere’s secret formula to success: make hot songs/tracks/grooves that please the crowds, the DJs, AND the sound systems! And as long as the signature sound remains constant in every release, he can’t lose! Of course, featuring his signature vocalist Dajae is a key ingredient indeed, but after all of these years (and tracks), the Cajual sound is different, yet familiar, and moreover, current…
The title track “The Way” exemplifies all of the above: Cajmere’s groove, Dajae’s dubbed-in vocals, and all kinds of hypnotic synths, percussion loops and bassline – the perfect three course meal for sound systems worldwide, as well as your ear pods. “Pumphaus” is also true-to-form, with that signature Cajmere/Green Velvet sound that’s heard around the world, often imitated, but never (truly) duplicated… Saving my fave for last, “Confessions of a Dancer” is almost indescribable. I mean, when I spin it, I loop the first 60 seconds or so for about seven or eight minutes – and work the H*LL out of the sound system. Then, I let it break down with the narrated vocal snippet, and when it comes back in… In a word: EJACULATION (yeah, I said it, LOL!) You have to hear this EP for yourself, and when you do, have a towel handy… For the SWEAT – get your minds outta the gutter!
