Fred P has been one of the most consistently bad ass producers for the last 10 years. He extends the streak with Onward & Upward, another deep house masterpiece ready to drop from Syncrophone.

“Visionary Levels” is as next-level as the name implies. While other people are ordering loops and shuffling bits around, “Visionary Levels” is built with a celestial architecture, with synths that fold over themselves like origami. There are very few things in our lives today — music, or consumer products, or even houses — that are made this well, manufactured with this kind of care.

“Astrological Movements” leads off the b-side with a dazzling show of light and sound, synths flashing like sound-activated LEDs. This is a record of sights, sounds and visions, and it’s capped by the appropriate glimpse of the infinite on “From Then To Forever.” The discography of Fred P is among the great collective works of music so far in our century, and Onward & Upward is a another spectacular addition to it.
