Some of our friends team up with friends-of-friends on this fat four track EP. Hotmood has appeared on Tim Zawada‘s Tugboat Edits and Star Creature, Editorial and returns to Whiskey Pickle for another spin on wax. “Junkie” is absolutely LETHAL on the front end: funk bass, gorgeous organ solos and a big humping groove that could be run into the ground and still leave people dancing around the edge of the crater. Loz Goddard’s remix has that disco house thing down smooth: juicy, luscious, refreshing.
“Dis.co” does what the label says: soul with strings, funky brass and a tight arrangement make this a track that punches way above its weight. The test of a good groove is that you can just loop it around and around and people will still demand more. I think they will.
Between represses and new releases Hotmood has something like a half-dozen records on vinyl out right now. I don’t know if that’s indicative of success but it sure is indicative of quality. I’ve yet to hear a bad one.
