Gianni Bini caught a second wind last summer when the Italian vet’s tracks were picked up by Defected and brought a new attention to one of the more underrated and least discovered catalogs of producers from around his time and place. Previously his best known track had probably been “Soul Heaven” released as The Goodfellas; there’s a certain type of producer – I’ve met him a hundred times – whose best works invariably appear under something other than his own name and this happened to Bini quite a lot.
Despite having it up front now in his new duo project The Rituals, Bini still lets the music do the talking. Following up on the STA EP comes the original and remix of “Sun Goes Down” on Oceantrax. The Seamus Haji remix is where the magic happens, chopping up the original and mulching it under like old gold melted down into a new ring. The vocal is sonorous, the music smooth and silk and beautiful arranged.
