Chicago Is Home Vol 1 is another Groove Access record giving you a slice of what’s happening not in the Chicago of your dreams but in the real city of flesh and blood and where the winds are actually pretty mild circa October 2021.

Kid Enigma‘s “In My Heart” takes about two minutes to get started but forms the perfect deep house party-starter: play this when there’s too much milling about and watch them leave their drinks for the center of the room. Any Chicago Skyway original is worth paying immediate attention to and this project has provided immediate dividends by saving our guy’s “Lost Track” from oblivion. The only throwback about it is that it’s an old fashioned beatdown: twitchy, glitchy effects over stomping drums. You can play this with techno, you can play this with house, you can play this in any room where baby powder has been lain out and nobody’s too worried about getting something spilled on their shoes.

The B-side features Dan Ryan’s epic “Opera Jazz” and Ed Nine‘s sinister tribute to the tweakbox, “Three Hunit Three.” Best V/A this month and definitely some of the best four tracks, individually and collectively, to come out of Chicago lately.
