Hizou drops the third volume of their Keeping The Legacy line, a V/A series spotlighting a few artists per plate that can be counted among the finest purveyors of this deeply-rooted deep house sound working today. Past editions have featured James Duncan, Chez Damier, Gari Romalis, G. Marcell and Satore; this one features some old friends and familiar faces to anyone that’s accustomed to thumbing through the racks for new sounds.

The best two tracks are split up between sides. Jacksonville’s gem of a track “Data Log” steals the music of your dreams: high, atmospheric deep house and deeper techno, radiant chords and percussion that blinds you with an ultra-lustrous sheen. Nico Lahs (as “NLXLB”) contributes “Gravitate,” which is seven minutes long but feels longer. More earthy than the airy Detroit vibes of “Data Log,” “Gravitate” is a soft riot of alien tribal drums and sizzling electronics. Lahs adds layers on top of layers, takes a few away, adds a few more and the result is a deep house track that could double as the jukebox music for a twenty-second century mass religious awakening.

Not to cut quick over the other two tracks here, because Keeping The Legacy Vol. 3 packs more high quality tracks onto twelve inches than most labels release all year. Huerta’s “D.A.Y.L.” is an exquisite chunk of Detroit-flavored techno, sticky with analog smut. Closing out is the 100Hz track “Ggg” which comes pretty close to deep house without drums — a hypnotic trip through the stargate pierced by racing stars and sloppy comet dust. One of the finest EPs from anyone, capturing four distinct producers at their peak.
