Jay Hill‘s Beckoning is a four track EP of deep, hypnotic house. The title track is intensely visual, evoking dark cities pierced by light and shadow and the roaming tribes that populate them. There’s a touch of the sinister in the original mix, wiped clean by Frink’s deep and sensual mix. That remix is choice and my pick from the EP – it’s just so rare to find someone who knows how to do this Chez Damier-type of sound that’s neither corny as fuck or sleepy as all get out.
Also worth checking out, “Fruits of Love” tells a fragmented story in different voices – a radio dial slides from 88FM to the triple digits before coalescing around a heavy centrifugal bassline.
