There are reasons to celebrate the return of Jeff Derringer to Smartbar this December 9th, when he’ll be playing open-to-close to mark his return to the helm of his Oktave residency.

Jeff stepped down from performances in July to receive treatment for cancer. We’re thrilled to pass on the news that Jeff has successfully overcome cancer for the second time and has come back rejuvenated and with the determination of a dozen men. A portion of the night’s proceeds will also be donated to Imerman Angels, which “provides one-on-one support among cancer fighters, survivors, and caregivers.”

December 9th is also Oktave’s 8 year anniversary and most of those have been spent as one of the most successful residencies of its kind in Chicago.

Readers may recall our interview with Jeff to mark Oktave’s last anniversary. He mentioned he wouldn’t be starting a record label any time soon because there weren’t “enough time or resources for me to be doing the shows at Smartbar, tending to my own music and performances and run a label.”

That’s changed as well: Jeff has just released his Control EP, the first release from Oktave Records. Listen to the first track here and pick it up on wax from Juno or Clone:

Jeff Derringer will be playing all night at Oktave’s 8 year anniversary on December 9, 2017 at Smartbar (3730 N. Clark Street, Chicago, IL, 10pm-late.) Tickets are available here.
