Junior Sanchez Todd Terry Divergent EP

This is a track I never would have sought out. Junior Sanchez brings in an even more legendary presence from the history of the New York scene in Todd Terry on “Live Forever.” This is the lead track from a forthcoming EP, Divergent, on Crosstown Rebels. And for the record, that’s Todd doing the vocal, which probably hasn’t happened in awhile. This is a buoyant, upbeat and punchy lead for an EP that embodies some of those superlatives.

“After Love” feels like a throwback but not where you’d think it lands: blooming piano riffs and pitched and pinched disco vocals put this in that kind of glitzy mid-’00s clubby sound that always makes me think of Hott 22 — an act which has been defunct so long that a Jersey strip club has taken over domain control for the name. It takes a turn to more subterranean and dubby destinations from there, but on the whole this is the kind of positive music much in demand right about now.
