You can never be too rich or have too many Ultra Nate records in your life. Here the Baltimore vocalist teams up with S-Man (the moniker for Roger Sanchez’s underground projects) for “Fake,” a new single from Chicago’s Cajual. The original (and especially Ultra’s delivery) made me think of something that was often said about Romanthony: “The best Prince songs Prince never wrote.” I wouldn’t go that far (and that wasn’t really fair to Romanthony either while we’re talking about it), but there’s a gorgeous paisley’n’purple vibe to this, from the way Ultra clips her words to the deep monster bassline. Also features remixes by Tiger Stripes, Sonny Fodera and Mason Maynard.
