“Timeless” is gonna be an overused superlative in any list like this. Grant Nelson’s “Long Time Coming” isn’t so much resistant to time as completely out of its time.
In an era when everything that could be cloned was eventually cloned (and more often than not put for sale on the street in no time flat), “Long Time Coming” was unique – 4×4 Garage with swagger & soul, a vibrant sheen & enough grit and grime to give it some guts. Its simplicity never seems repetitive; it’s addictive without being cloying.
In short: if you had to throw everything else out and save one track from peak UK Garage London, this might just be it.
