UK Garage with a certain psychedelic sensibility, Colours was a project of Stephen Emmanuel. The flip with “What U Do” (featuring Eska, who still has a solid singing career going on) is a marvelous track in its own right but it was the “SE22” mix of “Hold On” (featuring June Hamm) that has gotten most of the glory.

Beyond the ever-so-colorful arpeggio, the vocal brings so much soul it could light up a room on its own. There’s an epic scale to this – maybe it’s the strings, accented by stabs and broken beats all working harmoniously together.
