dem 2

Stripped down and then gussied up, “Destiny” was a manically addictive 2step anthem from Dem 2, the duo that was a veritable hit factory for several years on their own New York Soundclash Records (which also released Tuff Jams Vol 1). The shuffling beats made people dance in strange and dangerous ways, with stabs borrowed from the Techno Soul of Eddie Fowlkes and vocals that sound like a tortured, lonely soul that haunts an MPC60.

Hugely influential in Dubstep and bass music scenes but too quirky and cheery to belong to them, “Destiny” was way ahead of its time which possibly hasn’t yet come.
