You could make a tribute set nearly every day of the week to Groove Chronicles – if you can afford them, because the original wax of El-B and Noodles’ productions under this moniker are some of the most highly prized UK Garage records among collectors these days. “Stone Cold” is, well, stone cold – as far as 2step goes, it just didn’t get better than this. Hazy, lazy and deceptively simple, Groove Chronicles chopped up Aaliyah’s trilling vocal with a razor blade and made a sonic collage out of it. It’s intoxicating, alluring and irresistible.
