For the first time in recent memory, SmartBar will be going dark this weekend.
The iconic Chicago nightclub will remain closed from January 7th through January 14th while the lighting system and award-winning sound system will be retooled and upgraded, including the introduction of new Funktion One DJ monitors and – something you’ll notice right away – a restored wood grain dancefloor.
SmartBar will be re-opening on Thursday, January 15 for Relight the Night, a free party featuring Sunday night resident Derrick Carter, followed by a series of events intended to introduce and showcase the new atmosphere with residencies Oktave (1/16 with Dasha Rush), Hugo Ball (1/17 with Norm Talley), For Frankie (1/18) and more.

Smart Bar, America’s oldest independently operated night club founded in 1982, is receiving a facelift in early January 2015. A series of exciting renovations to Smart Bar’s lighting and sound system will engage guests’ ears and eyes as they enjoy the club’s top notch bookings during 2015 and for years to come.
Smart Bar will be closed from January 7th through the 14th, during which new lighting will be installed throughout the club, the DJ booth will be expanded and modernized to include new Funktion One DJ monitors, and the dancefloor will be restored to its beautiful natural wood grain. The whole soundsystem has been re-tuned to showcase its magnificent sound quality, as well.
The club will celebrate the renovations with Relight the Night, a series of events showcasing the upgrades throughout the month of January. This series kicks off with a free soft opening event on Thursday, January 15th featuring Smart Bar resident and internationally renowned DJ, Derrick Carter.
