Services have been announced for Benji Espinoza, co-founder of DJ International Records and one of the most ubiquitous and dynamic figures in Chicago house music history.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 28 2020 from 3pm to 8pm at Heritage Funeral Home, 3117 South Oak Park Avenue in Berwyn, Illinois. A chapel service will be held at 10:30am on Thursday, October 29 2020 at the same address.

Benji Espinoza died on October 24 2020 after 35 years in the music scene selling, distributing and making sure the hot records got into the best DJs’ bags:

Benji Espinoza was a co-founder of Chicago’s legendary imprint DJ International Records and Quantum, DJ International’s distributor where they gave work to quite a few struggling and aspiring DJs (among them was Bad Boy Bill). He had a hand in the circulation more hit house records than probably any man alive and he possessed an uncanny recall of years, dates and details for many he merely owned. Benji knew more about both Chicago house records and the Italo, cosmic disco and other records that influenced Chicago house and were played by Chicago house DJs in the ’80s than any person I have ever met.

Donations can be made in memory of Benji Esponiza or a tribute left at the website for Heritage Funeral Home.
