As the pieces fall into place and our world (maybe?) turns a page, we see more and more of the familiar faces reappear. Among them: Jeff Derringer, Chicago techno DJ and impresario whose OKTAVE night has become one of Chicago’s most enduring nightclub residencies.

“I think a residency has a civic commitment,” Jeff Derringer told us in one of our favorite feature stories on the occasion of OKTAVE’s seventh anniversary. “I don’t know if a lot of people think like that anymore but I do. I’m trying to do something for Chicago. I believe in Chicago and want this music to get over in Chicago.”

Now in its 12th year, OKTAVE returns to Chicago’s Smartbar this Friday, October 1 with special guest ANNA (its second show since clubs reopened; the first was with Volvox in July). ANNA is herself embarked on a two week North American tour featuring stops the following night at Halcyon in San Francisco and a week later in Indianpolis (October 7, Patron Saint) and Detroit (October 8, Magic Stick).
