Heart of Chicago Soul Club is Chicago’s Women led Soul Club, spinning All Vinyl, Rare Soul and vintage grooves. We are obsessed with hunting down, collecting and playing records that make us all want to dance. The Younghearts song, “A Little Togetherness”, speaks to us because our goal has always been to create an inclusive place where people feel comfortable, and we can build community on the dance floor. We take pride in creating a welcoming space where you can put away the noise of the world for a few hours and feel the magic of the music together.
Heart of Chicago Soul Club dance parties travel to a time when music production was fully orchestrated with instrumentation and vocals with a depth you don’t hear in today’s music. Our DJs collect a variety of vinyl records, but showcase Northern Soul music, an obscure uptempo American soul music rediscovered by UK DJs in the North of England in the 70s, played for those who wanted to dance all-night in clubs like Wigan Casino. The Northern Soul Culture is still going, with a current resurgence in the UK and around the world, and we are overjoyed to bring that style of big dance party to Chicago. We are proud of our city, because Chicago has a rich soul history and many of these old records came from here. It is fun to play Gene Chandler’s “There Was a Time”, when he says, “In my hometown, a beautiful boy, the name of the place” and we all yell “CHICAGO, ILLINOIS!”. We also branch out into vintage 60’s and 70’s dance grooves like uptempo, psychedelic, garage, Latin Soul, Boogaloo, and a bit of modern soul/disco.
Two years ago, when we threw our first Dance Party at Color Club, we knew this music was special, and love hearing that people fall in love with this old music like we have. The response has been amazing, and our dance floors have been packed full and sold out. You just might be dancing and Shazamming all-night!
We look forward to being back on the amazing wood floor of Color Club’s spacious ballroom, Saturday, June 7th 7:30pm-1am. Our resident DJs, Debbie, Kat and Psyche Prissy Pie will be back, and filling in for Ricki-Free is our amazing guest DJ, Selector David Suede from the Nor’easter Soul Club in Upstate New York. We just can’t wait to dance with you to his amazing records!!
