One of the most anticipated new drum machines in years, Vermona’s analog and sampling drumDING is now available. One of the stars of the last two Berlin Superbooth exhibition and trade shows, drumDING has developed something of a cult following via videos made by enthusiasts and creators who managed to get their hands on one.
The drumDING is a combination of an analog synthesizer voice for the creation of drum sounds, a sampler and a performance sequencer. Combining what is often a process of generation and editing across multiple devices into just one machine, with the drumDING you can create drum sounds using the single voice, sample the audio, and sequence them as you would on a TR-808.

This could be incredibly awkward, but the demos show a remarkably smooth workflow. Rather than separate channels for different drum sounds (kick drums, snares, etc.), the analog synthesizer produces every sound. With the push of a button, it’s captured as a sample, which can be further shaped and layered and manipulated digitally. The sequencer then turns the generated sounds into beats. You’re not limited by a standard array of drum sounds here, and you don’t have to import them into something else to manipulate or organize them.
This is terrible exciting stuff, and if Vermona manages to deliver, it could be one of the most impactful new instrument releases in dance music in many years. Vermona’s drumDING is available for pre-order from merchants internationally for around $1,500.
