This one took a long way around: from DJ Pap and Curt Harmon (aka Cei Bei) in Chicago to Dubai and back again. Cei Bei is an immensely talented vocalist, but the key here for me is Pap’s incredibly lush keyboards and the way the music gets into a groove without simply turning the bass up to 11. It’s hard to describe, but there’s an organic unity, like a room of session musicians from the days of Motown who have played together for years and know each other’s habits and tendencies. Harley & Muscle’s remix is a little too deep for my taste: I much prefer the instrumental mix.
