Subterranean psychedelia from Swiss producer Ground16, pressed to black wax by Sofa Movements Records. Structural Disruption is an EP of five tracks rooted in the underground and then branching out into the cosmos, deeply physical dance music for esoteric heads. Aficionados can spend excessive time tracking down records like this: music that is retrofuturistic but not insular with nostalgia, stimulating techno hybrids that sound like they’ve been channeled from an oracular voice of the universe instead of the usual source (a 500 Techno Banger Loops! sample pack downloaded as a reward for subscribing to an email list.)

“Disruptive Error” is degraded IDM, a frenzy of percussion and dry snares shaking the structure apart. Like all good ghost stories, Structural Disruption gets darker as you further. Small elements of dub techno from the first track bleed over into “Dusty Nightmares,” setting up “Silent Echoes,” which captures what an animated film about the life and death of a 303, told from the perspective of the 303, might sounds like.

On the flip is “Sub Dub Drift” and you’ll have to remind me of that one because any memory I have has been dragged down into the gravity well created by the spiraling arms of “Horizon Fumé.” The EP’s closer is a slow, somnolent commute to the edges of consciousness, a track and an EP that are both one-of-one, the best of their class.
