Volume One is the liftoff for planting:seeds, a new series of EPs from Seed Recordings. And Volume One is something of a showcase for Jayphonic. His track “Last Night” leads it off and it starts in a totally different place from where it takes you, throttled and shoved around by a fusillade of Afro-Latin percussion that melts down into a deep, emotional, electro soul show stopper. It’s that kinda thing.
Jayphonic returns halfway through for a remix of “Madame Jeanette” from Burnthismutha, one of those ubiquitous tracks that glue together sets. The meandering music and half-intelligible dialog keep you right on the edge and sets up the next record on a platter.
