I heard these tracks released one by one but it takes the context of the full, completely EP to get a proper appreciation for it. Last Disco On Earth is Mar De Novo‘s Winding Road debut, taking to the storied Nottingham label where so many unconventionally dope house and house-adjacent records have been minted. This is another one of them. Across five tracks, Mar De Novo draw in the history of disco, Italo, trip hop, downtempo, synthwave and a million other genres both real and imaginary. The results are spellbinding: one of the best front-to-finish plays of 2026.
The tracks are extraordinarily well-crafted and polished to a bright, shiny gleam, and arranged as if every note were weighed and taken into consideration. There are no vocals, only occasional words and sometimes just vaguely human sounds either processed, sampled or generated by machines. Yet Last Disco On Earth is desperately evocative — a record that’s trying to say something important, and deciding instead that it’s better to show you a beautiful universe than to tell you about it.
The title track leads with a fat, squishy groove and euphoric upbeat tone reminiscent of the great Italo studio outfit Kano. “Uncanny Valley” is an electronic fantasia — a snow globe of twinkling lights and twinkling keys and an almost Bacharach-like lightness. “Reflection” a delightfully slow grooving beast, with a melody that I feel like I recognize but can’t quite place, or it’s just so good that I’ve been drugged into thinking I’ve heard it before. “Find Love” is a synthwave masterpiece — a violet riot of throbbing basslines, soaring chords and a mob of disembodied voices. Gorgeous, if utterly unpredictable, selections.
