Regent Obsidion album artwork

Big rolling drums on this new EP from Regent. The title track is a straight headrush — the cover art for the EP features a plume of smoke rising out of a frozen high altitude volcano and that’s about as good a visual metaphor as you’re going to get. All four tracks hit the midsection like a weaponized metronome, with the title track “Obsidion” [sic!] racing into the inert and by comparison almost immobile grandeur of “Interpolate” standing out above the rest.

Planet Rhythm fires out these tracks out like they’ve got Oceania’s music-writing machine on standby; this was Regent’s second EP on Planet Rhythm following 2020’s Iron Dreams and since it dropped in late February they’ve released seventeen more records since then. Don’t sleep.
