Note: The 5 Magazine DJ Series was a monthly CD series released in a limited edition from March 2007 to November 2008. We featured mixes from legends such as Frankie Knuckles, Gene Hunt and Terry Hunter to the next generation of hard-working Chicago House Music heroes, distributed for free on CD in the Chicago area.

cdIf you’ve followed anything to do with House Music since the mid-1990s, you’re definitely familiar with Stacy Kidd. With over 70 releases and remixes out to date, his music hits dancefloors everywhere.

Always versatile with his sound, he has produced music on a wide array of labels ranging from the legendary Chicago staple Dance Mania, Cajual’s early sublabel Circuit, the UK’s Peacefrog, France’s Riviera and what is considered by many as the biggest independent House music label today, Defected. Tracks like “Let Love Enter” and “Jammin'” are consistently found in the sets of DJs big and small the world over, not to mention on mix CDs of top jocks like Derrick Carter, Mark Farina and Towa Tei of Deee-Lite fame. Most recently his critically acclaimed single “The Movement (Now Move)” on Defected has been featured on multiple In The House compilations.

After Defected approached Stacy several times to acquire music from him, he submitted material which opened additional doors with releases like “Thank You” and “I Wanted You” on Tony Humphries’ Yellorange label. As a result, opportunities snowballed to work with Louie Vega on a variety of labels headed by Masters At Work. Look out for his upcoming full length album with Tai Davis Unpredictable, to be released on a powerhouse label in the months to come, in addition to many of his past gems re-issued on ChicagoSoundSource.
