“Through that process of sharing one’s art, it validates. It makes an opportunity for a person to say am heard, I matter, I’m here, listen to what I have to say because it’s important.”
Our recent story on DJ Edward Fields and his battle with schizophrenia touched a nerve with many of our readers. The association he is affiliated with, NAMI (the national Alliance on Mental Illness) helps with the support, education and advocacy in aiding the lives of people and their friends and family that have mental illness.
On Thursday October 13th, the Metro Suburban Affiliate of NAMI will be holding a fundraiser to raise money for their Recovery Through the Arts Program. “An Evening of The Blues to Recovery” will feature Grammy nominated Blues legend Lurrie Bell at Fitzgerald’s in Berwyn, IL. There will also be performances by NAMInation members who do everything from singing, comedy, poetry and DJing. All the proceeds will go towards helping purchase equipment for their program.
