It was last June 3rd that we learned the shocking news that House Music producer and DJ and all around fixture in the Chicago House Music scene, Andre Harris, had passed away. I’ll always remember where I was when I learned the news that Frankie Knuckles had passed away. And we were on our way to Millennium Park that afternoon for the City of Chicago’s Tribute to Frankie Knuckles when we learned that Andre had died. A saddening, shocking time, and we still haven’t gotten over it.
This Sunday, June 7, Undergroundhouse.tv and Resurrection are broadcasting a tribute to Andre Harris, presented by Mr. Latin House and Mark Matras with special guest DJs Louie Gomez, Jesse Rivera, Raul Vergil, Ricky Bradshawn and Jackin Andy.
“I met Andre through Mark,” Alex MrLatinHouse told me. “I admired how he always went about the Chicago House scene – always telling me, ‘Just be you and everything will come into place.’
“I remember spinnin’ with him at many places, from Exit to The Afterparty for House of Sol. But one that comes to mind is when we had a battle back and forth here at my studio for my show Slammin’ Saturdays. We joked about the whole entire thing afterwards. It was a memory I will never forget.”
