Someone Threatened to Bomb the Aragon Ballroom

Someone really doesn’t like Steve Lacy, the Aragon Ballroom, or both.

Chicago Police and the FBI confirmed that a bomb threat had been received just prior to the doors opening for a show at the Aragon Ballroom, the venerable Uptown music venue which recently celebrated its 100th anniversary.

On Wednesday night, Steve Lacy was set to perform the first of two shows at the Aragon. The show went on, but was delayed after Chicago police officers were dispatched in relation to a bomb threat on the venue.

According to NBC’s Chicago affiliate, the FBI released a statement which called the bomb threat “unsubstantiated” and said they were continuing to work with local and state officials. From the context, it appears the case is now being investigated for “hoax threats.”

“Hoax threats and swatting attempts are crimes that carry severe, long-lasting consequences, to include federal prison sentences, as well as state or local criminal charges,” the FBI said in a statement quoted by NBC.

Lacy is playing a second show tonight (October 1).
