Hyde Park venue The Promontory will shut down at the end of 2025, adding to the list of Chicago music and nightlife venues that have closed up in recent years.

The event space at 5311 S. Lake Park Avenue West announced the imminent closure on Instagram, stating that the venue would remain open and serving the public through the end of the year before they “turn off the lights at The Promontory for the last time.”

“During the last 11 years, we have welcomed so many friends and family through our doors. During the last 11 years, so many wonderfully talented people have made The Promontory the special neighborhood place that welcomed all.”

The Promontory plans to remain open through their New Year’s Eve party and close as the calendar turns into 2026.

Inspired by the fire pit council rings at Promontory Point, The Promontory was dedicated to “celebrating the eras when spacious ballrooms and jumping jazz clubs made Chicago’s South Side the capital of American music.”

The Promontory is owned by 16″ on Center, which has opened a number of venues around the city including The Salt Shed, Thalia Hall, Empty Bottle and, prior to its 2009 closure, were part of the ownership group at Sonotheque.

The Promontory occupied a rare space in Chicago’s nightlife scene and will be hard to replace.
