Family and friends will be gathering this Sunday April 6 2025 to celebrate the life of Charles Chambers, better known as the icon DJ Funk.

Chicago’s Park West Theater will host a celebration of the late, great DJ Funk starting at 5pm on Sunday April 6 2025. The event will feature a 30 minute memorial video set plus a celebration of sounds with DJ Godfather, Traxman, Slugo, Gant-Man, DJV, John Simmons, Jammin Gerald, Gene Hunt, Cross, DJ Spinn, Ryan B, DJ Gordo, Kevin McSwain, Frankie Vega and special guests.

Known for anthems including “Work That Body,” “Pump It,” “Knock Knock,” Fuk-U-Later,” “Run & Work It” and a dozen more, Funk was a one-man machine throughout the 1990s and into the new millennium, at one point carrying the weight of the dormant Dance Mania Records on his back when Ray Barney stepped away before rejoining in the label’s 2010s resurgence.

Born Charles E. Chambers, the iconic Chicago dance music pioneer and ghetto house legend died last month after battling stage 4 cancer.

The celebration will continue until midnight. All proceeds will be going to DJ Funk’s family, according to event organizers. Tickets are available via jamusa.com.
