There are many interesting projects emerging from Asia that are transcending the mundane, but maybe none are so inspiring as SYS Sister Sounds. Founded in Hanoi, Vietnam, the label run by Maggie Tra showcases music from Asian female and non-binary artists and has a brilliant single here from KIMTrang. Described as “dreamy ambient,” it’s a work of pure rhythmic beauty, constantly in motion, a graceful melody that dances through a psychedelic lattice of steel and crystalline percussion.
As Harold Heath recently pointed out, it’s great to see a record label with a cause or a philosophy you can get behind — but when they also make good music that feeds your head and your heart, it’s brilliant.
