Being a fan of Soulful House has never been an easy one for me. Perhaps because I’m too picky, or maybe it’s because I sometimes find it a little boring. Either way, I’ve persevered in my quest for something that’s got just the right amount of everything, and this newest offering from Andy Ward and Random Soul has the ingredients I’m looking for. Out of the six remixes of “Come Together”, the Andy Ward Vocal is choice; from the beat (perfect swing and bounce to it), the vocal clarity (no drowning here), and the perfect message (can’t hate on a hook that says so much) – this tune has found a home in my sets. On merit alone, this track gets 5 out of 5 Freaks for me. There’s also a dub version of the same tune which comes into a tight close.
The Rob Hayes vocal remix is another that’s worth a mention. His captures the organic feel without pushing it over the top, and gives the vocals their room to shine. The last 2 minutes of the track is gem, giving you more than enough instrumentation to ride the rhythm into a nice blend. And DJs, you know how we love that. The only thing that’s really missing from this track is the sunshine that I felt while listening to it (le sigh). Just want to mention that I’d really like to know who’s on vocals, and pretty boo’d out that the info wasn’t on the tearsheet.
