Basement tracks at their finest from Berlin-based producer Jansen. Jansen’s tracks have a muted, understated quality — there aren’t any massive sweeps or samples out of place, just a slow burning intensity. There’s a smooth but eminently nodding aesthetic here — the kind of tracks that people with limited imaginations think would be best for day parties but could easily incite mayhem in a small room at any time of day or night.
You can almost see “Say Never” grow brighter, like sun on chrome in an otherwise gray city. “Just Move” incorporates a modest but increasingly belligerent 303 line amidst disco stabs and that signature percussion — dry but leggy — and short canned vocal clips straight out of deep house casting.
This is the sixth release from Cabriolet Recordings, a label I wasn’t familiar with but which seems to be picking up some heat on Bandcamp. Jansen for his part has released a few records under this alias, most notably and recently on Dance All Day.
