The number of mediocre V/As that appear and quickly disappear every month in this scene has to be heard to be believed. San Diego’s Rhythm Nation answers with a record so audacious it’s almost a taunt, like Michael Jordan shooting free throws with his eyes closed.

Two of the Midwest’s finest manufacturers of secret weapons fire two more on a single sided 12″ record made to greet sunrises through blackout windows. Detroit’s Patrice Scott brings it with the classic, classy and sonorously rich “Sometimes I Feel.” There’s a beautiful melody to this, punctuated by claps and synths that rock so gently it’s mesmerizing. And God bless Rick Miranda, whose “Body Grooves (MLK Pass)” does honor to the words of Dr. King with an upbeat, uplifting, early-AM deep house meditation. I cannot imagine this will be in stock for more than a week after it hits the racks. Act accordingly.

Patrice Scott & Ricardo Miranda: Sometimes I Feel/Body Grooves (MLK Pass) (Rhythm Nation / June 2021 / 12″ Vinyl)
1. Patrice Scott: Sometimes I Feel (06:40)
2. Ricardo Miranda- Body Grooves (MLK Pass) (05:27)
