Just when Pezzner is out of the picture he slides right back into center frame. He’s back after a notable absence from the charts with a new EP getting massive support from the world, and from me, on hip outlet Visionquest.

The Island Fantastic sounds like the title of an MST3k riff, but this is deadly serious – a career landmark and for my money the best record he’s ever made (and I say this knowing how long his career has been). It’s a swirling masterpiece – a soundtrack waiting for a film to be made, evoking blurry shapes and fuzzy landscapes. If this man isn’t careful he might become a composer, a serious one. Dreamier than deep house but more soulful than nu deep, this is heaven on wax.
