Drowning In Your Love is another nice outing from UK deep house faves Freerange, this time from Soul Clap and featuring an original vocal from Shaun J Wright.
Wright swaps between calm spoken word delivery and impassioned melodic sections over a groove based on lovely, fat, round glistening three note descending bassline that only hits for three beats every two bars leaving lots of space. There’s this little bit of wriggly wah-ing synth programming that together with the sustained high string makes the track highly redolent of Madonna’s “Vogue,” in a good way.
If you’re not into vocals then the instrumental on its own is killer and I’d probably have reviewed it if it had appeared as a track sans vocal rather than a song.
The package also includes a drum version, an acapella, and two takes on the optimistically named track “EFUNK The Anthem,” a funk mix and a stripped mix. The latter is a lean, shimmering, energetic deep house vibe, while the former is a top notch groove featuring a superbly rubbery, springy, live sounding bassline that was clearly lovingly processed and polished in the studio to form the centrepiece of the track. More good quality tackle from Freerange.
